Quote by beyondmeasureI'm joining this group again if only because of a certain ruckus created by Ka Freddie, calling Gary V. and Charice (not, as was eariler reported, Arnel Pineda) "monkeys" due to their mimicking foreign singers.
Is the criticism fair (as I feel it is)? Or not? Tell.
Realistically, their just doing their jobs. Sabi nga sa kanta ni Loonie: ..."ano magagawa mo kung gusto ng tao eh makatang tisoy. Wala kang magagawa kung talagang tanga ang Pinoy, tanga." Him referring to Filipino mainstream audience's tendency to embrace novelty and western music.
Now with Ka Freddie assuming that foreigners would be in awe when they listen to native Filipino music, I don't really agree with him that they'd be like "ah ganyan pala ang awiting filipino... ang sarap sa pandinig". No, foreign audience don't roll like that. Music is entertainment, no matter if the performer is called and "artist" and his work called an "artform" he/she is still doing this for a living and only those its rarity that a hobbyist musician attains fame just by going at his own pace or doing his own thing... and by that I mean, Youtube stars are there to entertain, not inspire.
So no, it isn't a fair criticism. What's fair is Ka Freddie is long forgotten.
